teaching philosophy

As a teacher of singing, my goal is to help students realize their full vocal potential and develop a lasting love of music and learning. I believe that great teaching is rooted in continual growth, so I am always studying voice science, pedagogy, acoustics, and new research to better serve my students.

individualized instruction

There is no “one size fits all” approach to the voice. Every singer comes with a unique background, temperament, and learning style. I tailor each lesson to the individual, adjusting language and technique to meet each student where they are.

  • Beginners: I emphasize modeling, imagination, and approachable language.

  • Intermediate students: I blend imagery with more precise technical instruction.

  • Advanced singers: We explore detailed pedagogical concepts and refine artistry.

high standards with compassion

I set clear expectations and maintain high standards while fostering a supportive and encouraging environment. Success in singing cannot be measured solely by competitions or performances. Growth, confidence, and authentic expression are equally important.

constructive feedback and holistic evaluation

I assess progress using both objective and subjective measures—technical development, expressive depth, and personal growth. My feedback is always constructive, balancing critique with affirmation to build both skill and self-trust.

the heart of singing

Singing is a profoundly human art that enriches life, regardless of one’s career path. As T. S. Eliot wrote, “You are the music while the music lasts.”
I consider it a privilege to guide each student on their journey toward becoming that music.
